News Update, Who Is Bryan Christopher Kohberger? Suspect Arrested in Idaho Murders

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of four college students in Idaho, according to the Associated Press.

In a statement sent to Newsweek, Pennsylvania State Police confirmed that law enforcement officers arrested Bryan Christopher Kohberger on Friday morning. “Bryan C. Kohberger, 28, was arrested early this morning for a warrant of escape by members of Troop N and the Special Emergency Response Team at a home in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Kohberger was arraigned before Custodial District Judge Michael Muth and taken to the Monroe County Correctional Facility pending extradition to Idaho," Pennsylvania State Police said in the statement.

The announcement of the arrest comes more than a month after Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Ethan Chapin, 20, and Xana Kernodle, 20, were found dead at 1122 King Road in Moscow, Idaho. All four are students at the University of Idaho.

Moscow police conducted the investigation with assistance from the Idaho State Police and the local FBI office. For more than a month, the police could not identify a suspect or a person of interest in the crime, which sparked rumors and rumors on social media. Police were unable to find the weapon used in the crime, but said a knife was used.

Earlier this month, Moscow police released a description of the white Hyundai Elantra they were looking for.

"Progress is continuing to locate a white 2011-2013 Hyundai Elantra believed to be near a King Road residence in the early hours of November 13. "Investigators believe that the person(s) may have very important information to share about this case," Moscow police said in a press release Thursday.

During this ongoing investigation, police continued to receive thousands of tips from the public and conducted more than 300 interviews. According to the police, more than 100 pieces of physical evidence were found at the crime scene and about 4,000 photographs were taken by investigators at the scene.

The fatal shooting was reported to have taken place in the last hours of November 13, after the four victims returned home. According to police, Mogen and Goncalves returned home at approximately 1:56 a.m., while Chapin and Kernodle reportedly returned at approximately 1:45 a.m.

There were two other survivors in the house, both of whom were eliminated by investigators.

Moscow police are expected to hold a press conference on Friday afternoon, where they will likely provide more information about the arrest.

Newsweek contacted the Moscow Police Department and the FBI office in Pennsylvania for comment. Update 12/30/22, 3:11 PM ET: This story has been updated to include a confirmation from the Pennsylvania State Police.
